Upon registration to study programmes, you will obtain a sheet with your username and password. You can change the password any time after the first login.

The primary means of communication at the university is by email. You can look up contacts to all students and staff in the UIS. You will also use the UIS for e-registrations, registration of courses, logging in for examinations, filling applications, etc. Everything pertaining to studies can be found in the personal administration and student portals.

You can log in to the UIS using the local Faro-free Wi-Fi network and then download the certificate for accessing the wireless EDUROAM network. This you can then use both on campus and in the dormitories. Instructions can be found in UIS under Technology and its Management.

Subscription to the enlisted courses take place at the end of teaching in the running semester. The purpose is to obtain the accurate numbers of students taking a specific course in that semester.
As you will be enrolling in courses in English as your optional courses outside the set curriculum, you need to contact your study assistant who will insert the selected courses into the system for you!

During the time of registration – see the Schedule above – you need to register for the upcoming semester. Prior to registration you need to ensure that have attained the minimum number of credits during two preceding semesters, according to the regulations. If not, the system will not allow you to register, and you would have to file an application for registration for the next semester without needed credits. It then becomes the prerogative of the vice-dean to grant approval or not.

Registration takes place in the Student Portal of the UIS in the registrations section.

After confirming that you have registered for all the required courses in the system, do not forget to confirm your registration! By doing so, you will be registered for the next semester at FA MENDELU. You have 14 days to make changes to your selected courses. After this term there is no opportunity for changes, and you’ll be obliged to follow them. During registration for the next Winter Semester, you will need to make payment of the required amount and provide the confirmation of the transfer or payment to your study administrator.

You may need to provide the Dean or study Vice-Deans with an application for registration for the courses, for a scholarship or the similar. Please follow the instructions of your study officer and use the application form that you will find at the student portal in the UIS → Contact centre.

The course of study and its due completion are assessed using a system of credits known as the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). This means every course has a certain number of credits you will need to obtain to successfully pass a course with an examination or pass. You will need to obtain a minimum of 120 ECTS – in the case of Masters’ studies.

In the first semester of your Masters’ studies, you will be required to make a binding choice regarding the diploma thesis topic. This will happen within the deadline set by the academic year schedule. The possible topics will be offered to you by the head of the General Agriculture programme, prof. Skládanka.

Once you choose a topic, you will be allocated your thesis supervisor. You will be consulting your supervisor regularly to discuss your study progress. There are certain administrative steps to be adhered to and your study administrator will give you instructions.

Upon completion you will be required to submit two bound copies of the thesis in bookbinding for assessment to the department where the thesis has been assigned. There are rules for writing the thesis that you will have to comply with. Once you have completed your thesis and it has been approved, you will have to submit two copies bound in hardback. One copy will go to the university library.

The ISIC card is a university identity card for students under 26 years of age, with various discounts and deals at participating shops and outlets.
The normal Student Card is a university identity card for students over 26.

Without your ISIC or Student Card you will not gain access to some of the buildings and teaching rooms and facilities. It is also useful when you are at the dormitories or eating at the university canteen.

After the initial registration you will go to have your photo taken at the AVC MENDELU photographer. You will receive the activated ISIC/Student Card at the study department after several days.
ISIC has a limited term of validity, between September 1st and December 31st of the following year. To extend it by a year you can buy a validation token/sticker at the study department. Student Cards do not need to be extended; it will be valid for the entire duration of your studies.

Some of the university premises and facilities are protected by an entry control system where you need to show your card against an electronic reader at the entrance. The readers bear instructions „zde přiložte kartu“ (place your card here). In this regard you will need your ISIC/Student Card to access the Information Centre, university library, reading and study rooms as well as the Arboretum.
Besides your food purchases, you can cover copying and printing costs in the Information Center (IC) from the card – http://uvis.mendelu.cz/en/ .

MENDELU has an active International Student Club that organizes events for exchange students. You may access detail at http://iscmendelu.cz/.

Sport activities at MENDELU are managed by the Centre of Sport Activities. Sports are available to all students of all faculties and study levels. All sports are voluntary. Just like with other courses you will log in for sports at the time of registration of courses via UIS. Two sports activities are for free (under Rector’s decision 18/2012). The Sports Centre can be found in “Tauferovy koleje” (TAK) at Jana Babáka 5. The complete overview of sports and other relevant information can be found at http://www.csa.mendelu.cz as well as on facebook.com/CSA.MENDELU.
